Access for all
We've provided a number of features to allow you to tailor this website to your personal preferences:
- Text size - please see the very top of each page for ways of changing the text size used on the site;
- Differing contrast styles - we provide a number of site colour schemes to improve the site for users with certain visual impariments. Please see the top of each page for ways of changing of this websites colour combinations;
- Talklets text reading tool - At the top right of each page is a button entitled listen. This will turn on the Talklets text reading tool which will read out the text or each page, or selected text. This tool is useful for people who are dyslexsic or who have English as a second language. Important Usage note: Please try to avoid using the Text Zoom buttons on the Talklets toobar. These do not work well in conjunction with the website's own text zoom buttons at the top of each page.
- Structure - every page on the site is structured using HTML headings to ensure the best possible experience for all users.
Accessibility guidlines
We followed a list ofguidelines when putting together this website and it's content. This includes:
- Maintaining a standard layout and navigation system throughout;
- The use of headings, paragraphs, lists and other HTML(HyperText Markup Language) to create a logical document structure;
- Allow visitors to resize all text;
- Use of plain backgrounds to improve the readability of text;
- Use foreground and background colour combinations which have sufficient contrast;
- Use alt attributes on all images,and title attributes where appropriate, and ensure that all alt and title attributes are meaningful;
- Design layouts to work satisfactorily at a range of screen resolutions;
- Design the layout so that non mouse users are easily able to navigate the website;
- Ensure all hyperlinks use descriptive and meaningful text, avoiding short-hand language like 'Click here';
- Provide means so that navigation links might be bypassed my non mouse users
